Death will have to wait because Bergliot has more photos to shoot.
I first met Bergliot at the beaches outside Stavanger, Norway a few years ago. I was coming up from the sea after an average session at Sele beach and this old, small lady was running around in her pink jacket photographing just about everyone and everything she saw.
Smiling, I approached her and we had a short, pleasant talk about nothing special. I quickly realized I was talking to the Bergliot – a woman known around Norway for constantly posting her wonderful photos in dedication of her love for the Jæren coastline. After a little while I said goodbye, went back to my car and thought “Wow, she’s something special.”
I started thinking on my drive home that it would be interesting to learn more about Bergliot. I texted to ask if I could feature her in a portrait, not knowing at the time what I was going to use it for, I just felt there was something I needed to explore. At first, Bergliot said she felt more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it, but when I asked her once again a year later, she finally accepted.
