Foil surfing is slowly reaching its fingers into our collective consciousness. A long time ago, it was Laird wearing snowboard boots at Jaws. According to legend, in the late 1990s, someone brought an air chair (remember those?) back to Maui. Because he is Laird, he tried it, then decided to saw the seat off and surf it.
Now, much like SUP (blame Laird, they said!) the foil board is showing up all over the place, even on tidal bores like the Mascaret, which occurs in a river in France called the Dordogne. And judging from the crowds, the cat is definitely out of the bag.
