Being at a surf contest puts the viewer in a vastly different situation than tuning into a webcast. Watching a live webcast on the computer screen can easily lead to general inattentiveness peppered with sparks of emotive reaction. However, when in attendance at, say, the Hurley Pro Trestles, the surroundings are enough to keep even the calmest constantly stimulated. Even on a Monday, when most folks are at their nine to fives, there was plenty of entertainment on hand at Lowers. You just had to know where to look.
