White Waves is an award-winning documentary about surfers fighting against unseen pollution in the sea. We traveled by van for two years around Europe, meeting those surfers and exploring often overlooked challenges of pollution – from millions of little plastic filters to pathogenic bacteria in the sea.
One of the surfers we talked to is big wave legend, Greg Long, who famously almost drowned in his mission to surf the biggest waves possible. What might have sounded like a selfish pursuit in the ways Long describes his perspective back then, has since shifted into a new appreciation for life and his ability to positively impact the world.
“It’s like the saying goes,” he says, “What you do for yourself stays with you. What you do for others lives on eternally.”
