The Inertia

Competing against this guy was frightening. Jim Hogan was a fierce, focused, and hard-working competitor. When I surfed against him, I knew I would have to win with a strategy because outworking him wasn’t going to happen.

Luckily, Jim was a friendly guy on land. Here, Jim talks about his old life in the San Clemente surf scene and what it was like growing up competing, his days on the PSAA Tour, old rivalries, and the ups and downs of it all. Then, Jim made the decision to relocate to Costa Rica, where he could spend more time with his family instead of getting caught up in a grueling work life just to get by in Southern California. Now, he takes all those life lessons and applies them to his work as a dedicated surf coach.
