The Inertia

It’s been a real rollercoaster with the Pipe Pro. It took a while to get going, what with the doldrums that hit at the onset of the waiting period. Then, we had a few days of competition that saw the rookies making an explosive debut, Filipe receiving the laser-focused hatred of the surf community, and Kelly getting shown the door. Then there was all the drama about the questionable call for a lay-day in what many argued were pretty good conditions.

Before any of that went down, though, Hossegor decided to just go absolutely nuts. Every time we look away from Pipeline, there’s more footage coming in from the epic surf that hit Landes at the beginning of the month.

Earlier in the week, we saw an edit that served up a welcome amuse-bouche during the wait for Pipe. Then, all the aforementioned drama hit and we forgot about our French brothers and sisters for a little while. Well, now that we’re back to waiting around for Pipe to happen, clips of the French beachbreak have reared their head yet again, demanding to be acknowledged.

This one comes from the pragmatically named YouTube channel Surf France Hossegor-Capbreton. Through some very Fincher-esque green color grading, they bring us an edit full of  the kind of barreling monstrosities that we really wish were hitting Pipeline at the moment.

Alas, looks like we’ll just have to keep a hopeful eye on Oahu, while the Hossegorians have the last laugh.
