The Inertia

With all the attention Teahupo’o has been getting in the leadup to the Paris Olympics, sometimes it feels like the rest of France isn’t getting any love. Sure, it’s almost impossible to match a wave so explosive that even its name is terrifying (The Polynesian word roughly translates to “pile of heads,” which should be warning enough for any surf tyro eyeing the lineup). However, there’s a lot of incredible surf in the rest of the France, as the latest video from Ripitup can attest.

Down in the south of the mainland, Hossegor exploded to life to remind everyone that Tahiti isn’t the only game in town. Yesterday, the stars, swells and sand bars aligned to serve up the type of barrels we mostly only ever see in our dreams. As Ripitup describes in their YouTube description, it truly was an early Christmas gift for the surfers of Landes. Combine all that with some post-punk musical accompaniment from Dragon Rapid and you have yourself one hell of an edit.

Thanks, Père Noël.
