Offshores are a blessing. A curse too, if you happen to be on a step up and surfing a wave like Pipeline. A stiff breeze coming up the face holds that barrel open, but also likes to get under your surfboard and push you back, which isn’t exactly ideal for getting into a wave. Try as you might, it’s hard to fight back against a hard wind’s hand pushing against a flat chunk of fiberglass, and it’s not uncommon for that to end in disaster. Such was the case for Lance Maxwell, a guy who loves Pipeline. He found himself hung up in a thick Pipeline lip at the 22-second mark in the video above.
