New Jersey surfers got to start off the New Year with a little bit of swell. Unlike the conditions on January 1 last year, 2019 opened up with more than favorable waves on New Year’s Day.
And the thing is, the forecast had called for only two to three-foot waves with decent winds, and it absolutely turned on instead, with certain spots well over head high. The lighting was okay in the morning, at times creating really dramatic scenes with the sun peeking out of the clouds. The sky had cloud cover all morning but by midday, it cleared up and left us with ideal lighting that lasted the rest of the day.
There were a lot of surfers out enjoying the fresh start to a new year as I shot from my favorite spot in Monmouth County. It was quite the kick off to 2019.
