As you might have heard by now, the Wedge turned up the volume over Independence Day weekend. The beaches were technically closed (pandemic, remember?), but it appears that everyone and their mom came out to watch the spectacle. Jamie O’Brien did it properly. The raw footage is to die for. And some were saying the swell produced the biggest waves they’ve ever seen at the Wedge. It was a good day, for sure.
“The forecast for the 4th was listed to be the biggest day in a few years,” said Brent Weldon, the man who shot the video you see above. “Next thing you know, they announce they are closing down the beach in all of Orange County and L.A. Had to risk it and go check it out. Being the first on the sand I noticed the gates were open and it was go time.”
