If you’re a person who follows surfing, it’s likely you heard about a recent event in France. It was the Quiksilver Festival, a weeklong celebration of surf culture. Music, skateboarding, film screenings, and of course surfing are all a part of it. Held at Culs Nus beach in Hossegor, it attracts a whole lot of really, really good surfers. And since it was held at Hossegor in the fall, the waves were pretty spectacular.
Some 25,000 people showed up over the course of the week to watch teams of surfers compete in what organizers called a “serious fun” expression-session style format. Mason Ho, never one to miss out on “serious fun,” was there to mix things up, and it’s safe to say he had a pretty damn good time.
“The best surfers from across the world were invited to the dreamy sandbars of Hossegor to compete by France’s favorite pro surfer, Jeremy Flores,” Ho explained. “The plan was for surfers to team up in pairs. Each team earned points and each heat had a theme: best airs and barrels, best combos, biggest turns, and a twin-fin challenge. Four days of fun!”
The video you see above is mostly from the first three days and features surfing from Mason and Coco Ho, Noa Deane, Jeremy Flores, Clay Marzo, Michel Bourez, Mikey Wright, Alan Cleland, CJ Hobgood, Joan Duru, Dimity Stoyle, Laura Enever, Vahine Fiero, Kauli Vast, Shane and Jackson Dorian, Josh and Sierra Kerr, and Aritz Aranburu.
