The victors of the 2024 Nazaré Big Wave Challenge have been crowned. Yesterday, Pedro Scooby and Maya Gabeira took home honors for best performances, while Pedro and Lucas Chianca’s team won the overall competition. However, amongst all those wild displays of skill, there were also a hell of a lot of wipeouts and rescues.
Youtube Channel Barena Film and Sports collected an edit’s worth of stomach-churning moments at the world’s biggest wave. “It was a day full of action!” reads the caption to their latest video, “More than 5 jet skis ended in the sand and many rescues had to be done by the safety team that did an amazing job. Led by the living legend: Alemao de Maresias in charge of the logistics. Thanks to his team everybody returned to their home alive and safe.”
