The Inertia

Let me tell you why, in my personal opinion, Luke Cederman and his Raglan Surf Report is the best (and funniest) surf comedy out there: the guy doesn’t punch down. Without naming names, there are a lot of surfers building followings (and big social media pages) by punching down and taking the low-hanging fruit that is calling somebody else a kook. That’s tired. It’s played out. It’s actually not even funny anymore. But that’s not Cederman’s game. Rather than pointing a finger and laughing at the clueless kook with an out-of-place traction pad on their twin fin, Cederman’s pointing a finger at the guy pointing the finger at the clueless kook.

In short, he’s calling us all out for being…well, a-holes. It’s not exactly a secret that surfers aren’t always nice to each other, despite the stereotype that we’re all somehow a bunch of laid back beach bums. But why? We tell ourselves that being in the water makes us feel better. When the waves are good, we call it “fun.” When we know the waves are going to be good we’re in a good mood. There are actually a lot of positive feelings that come out of riding waves. Yet, for some reason, something changes when we touch the water.

Above, you’ll find another hilarious take from Cederman on how ridiculous we can all be when we’re out catching “a couple of fun ones.”
