Drone footage has come a long way in the last few years. And it’s changed the way we operate. From military strategy, to filming athletics to yes, capturing the ocean’s apex predator, filming from a drone has revolutionized media.
As the footage has gotten better, we’ve seen a rush of shark clips hit the internet. And something strange has happened – instead of depicting these large predatory fish as horrifying beasts, they’ve shown that most of the time, they’re just patrolling their home waters, not looking to harm humans, as they’ve done for time eternal. That’s why we thought it was relevant to share five of the best drone segments we’ve seen over the last few years.
The first one, above, was captured in Tuncurry Beach, New South Wales, by a pilot that calls himself the Rogue Droner. As you can see, the titling is rather ominous. Anytime “shark” and “stalking” are combined on the internet, SEO alarms go off. We’re not sure if this shark is actually stalking but the footage is certainly beautiful.
The footage above was collected by Aero Drone Media out of Florida with a hypnotic take of a tiger shark swimming along Miami Beach. The incredible aspect to this cut is how unaware the simmers are to the animal right in front of them (wait, that’s similar to most of people in these clips).
Again, Rogue Droner with the titling. Hard to tell if this fish is stalking kids. More likely just a curious fish checking out its home waters.
Above is a cut caught at Pismo Beach in Central California and again, it might ease your fears about sharks in the lineup. Getting chomped by a shark is akin to being struck by lightning: if it’s your time, it’s your time. It’s all chance.
Vision of what experts believe is a Great White Shark lurking within metres of swimmers on a NSW beach was spotted by a teenager using a drone. His fast-moving family raced to the shore and yelled at surfers to quickly get out. https://t.co/F0qHPwLjRQ @campricenews #7NEWS pic.twitter.com/I89O9KJ6WB

NSW shows up quite a bit in the shark-drone-clip genre, and you may have seen this one, but this kid spotted a predator in the water and warned local swimmers. We’re not sure they were in imminent danger but it sure made for a good news story.
