The Inertia

Father/Son surf roadies are a pretty awesome concept. For a family as legendary as the Fletchers they’re kind of a lost (but not really lost) way of life. Herbie mastered the Baja adventure decades ago and Nathan grew up on them. But as is the case with every family, sometimes life creeps up and chances for quality time grow further apart. That’s what makes this particular trip for Herbie and Nathan something special.

“It’s just not like going down to Newport and getting out of your BMW, putting on your wetsuit and going surfing, then get back in your car,” the elder Fletcher says. “Down here it’s all a lifestyle. You’re camping. You’re out in nature. You’re making fires. You’re looking at sunsets and it’s a different world.

And I like it.”

Two legends of different generations, carrying the same genes and a common bond. Nathan says his dad’s enthusiasm for it all is infectious, and we can be pretty sure whatever “it” is will be passed on to the next Fletcher generation.
