The Inertia

The Cocoon Tree is exactly what it sounds like it would be. “These are spherical structures in aluminum covered with a resistant waterproof tarpaulin designed to hang onto trees.” Straight forward enough for us!

Basically it is a giant orb fitted with a massive bed that dangles above the ground, affixed to twelve fixing points with twelve ropes. With a diameter of three meters (or 9.8 feet), it comfortably fits two adults, but with a threshold of two tons, what you consider “comfortable” might be more than what they do.

According to the makers, two people are all that is required to put it up. It weighs 60 kilos (or 130 pounds), so take that into account when considering mobility.

However cool these might be, $8,000 a pop is likely faaar from whatever childhood dreams you had.
