I met little Deano Vandewalle a year ago at Kandui Resort and he’s been blowing my mind ever since. I love working with groms. They’re always frothing, the waves are always epic when you’re 4 feet tall, and aside from the endless amount of hours I spend shooting, there’s never a bad day in their eyes. This year has been one for the record books in the Mentawais and Deano scored it about as good as you can get it. One of highlights of my year was watching Dean trade off perfect barrels at Rifles with his dad, Toni. It’s something that every surfing father dreams of.
