Griffin Colapinto just raised the bar for the 2022 Championship Tour. On Day four of the MEO Pro Portugal, Colapinto landed a perfect backside full rotation, earning himself a 10. The score was the first perfect score of the 2022 season.
The heat saw 23-year old Colapinto face off with former Olympian and fellow San Clemente native Kolohe Andino. The heat was a close one, but with minutes to spare, Colapinto landed the huge air, securing himself a spot in the semifinals.
“It feels amazing,” Colapinto told WSL in his post-heat interview. “Anytime you get a 10 it’s like a wall hanger—I got one and I’m over the moon. After that air it almost felt like I won the contest, but I realized I have more heats to surf so gotta bring it back. I’ll enjoy the moment but once I go to bed, tomorrow’s a new day.”
This isn’t Colapinto’s first perfect 10 and it won’t be his last. In 2018, at the Quicksilver Pro Gold Coast, he earned a perfect 10 with a triple barreled at Kirra. Although Colapinto is young, he’s shown he has what it takes to compete with the best of the best.
