Griffin Colapinto and Leonardo Fioravanti have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, following their performances at the Corona Open J-Bay. Both men are are now mathematically guaranteed to finish the season in the top two places for their respective countries, the United States and Italy, as Olympics.com reports.

The top 10 eligible male surfers from the 2023 Championship Tour season qualify for Paris. Fioravanti is currently at number nine and is guaranteed a spot in the final ten. Meanwhile, the number two-ranked Colapinto’s top 16 finish at J-Bay gained him 3,320 points and put him out of reach of his teammates. Currently the next highest ranked American is John John Florence, who is in sixth place.

“Officially qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics to be held in Tahiti,” wrote Fioravanti on his Instagram. “It will be an honor to represent my country for the second time at the Olympics. A goal I’ve had since the beginning of the year and I’m proud I reached it! The road to Paris is long and this is just the beginning.”

The two will now join France’s Kauli Vaast, Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi, New Zealand’s Billy Stairmand and South Africa’s Jordy Smith who all qualified through the 2023 ISA World Surfing Games in El Salvador.

However, Olympics.com notes that, “All the spots earned are provisional until a final announcement after the 2024 ISA World Surfing Games and review by the athletes’ respective NOCs.”
