The Inertia

In a new edit by Noah McPherson, Griffin Colapinto breaks down an all-time swell at his home break. “With back-to-back swells welcoming him home from a long Australian leg, Griffin took advantage of sleeping in his own bed for once to put his head down and get to work at surfing’s favorite skatepark like never before,” reads the description of the video from Red Bull Surfing.

“I’d say it’s some of the best Lowers I’ve ever surfed” said Griffin in a call with Red Bull, “The crowd was super mellow because all the two percent crew was in Australia for the challenger, so I had it to myself.”

That last part of the statement might have been a little bit of a fib, as a bevy of top-tier pros also made appearances. Noah Beschen, Leo Fioravanti, Lakey Peterson, Caroline Marks and others all stopped by for a swell that provided a perfect training ground for the CT events ahead.

When asked about whether the sessions at Lowers helped him win at the Surf Ranch and finish second in El Salvador, Griffin wholeheartedly agreed. “I think those swells definitely played a solid part, because I surfed six hours a day three days in a row, so I got my reps up,” he said. ”The board I was riding is the same board that I got second in El Salvador on, so I knew that board was magic from those days.”
