J-Bay is famous for two things: waves and sharks. The former is why the right hander has been a stop on the Championship Tour for years. While it’s no secret that sharks regularly patrol the South African waters, they made themselves very known when a great white attacked three-time world champ Mick Fanning in 2015 in the middle of a contest. The entire thing was caught on a live webcast and luckily, Fanning was able to fight the shark off and hop on a boat shaken, but unscathed.
It’s 2023 and the Championship Tour athletes have had another encounter with a great white at Jeffreys Bay. Nathan Florence was at the beach with his videographer when they captured footage of a great white shark stalking CT surfers.
