The Inertia

I’ve said it once and I will say it again – the girls are ripping. And I’m not talking about the bikini babes who are being featured on every North Shore clip we have seen this year (although they are indeed lovely). I’m talking about the ones that are actually surfing. If you haven’t noticed, girls aren’t “terrible,” as Dusty Payne so thoughtfully put it in Kai Neville’s Lost Atlas. They are not “staying on the boat and waiting for it to get one foot again so they can go out and do their little tail slides.”

The girls are straight killing it. Carissa Moore, Stephanie Gilmore, Tyler Wright, and Sally Fitzgibbons are just a few names in the growing number of girl shredders that are filling up the surf talent pool. The women surfers of today are being thrown into some of the most challenging conditions on earth (Fiji, Nazare, Jaws, and Teahupoo, to name a few) and stepping up to the plate in a big way.

Carissa Moore ripping.
