Of the three Florence brothers, Ivan is likely the least known. John John, of course, is the quiet one carrying the biggest stick and Nate is the goofy, hard-charging YouTuber, but Ivan Florence? We don’t hear a lot from him. All three of them surf like cats on fire, though, and Ivan, according to both of his brothers, has the best style of the trio. He lets his surfing do the talking, and his surfing doesn’t have an inside voice.
He, like his brothers, has been surfing Pipe since he was too small to be surfing Pipe. He grew up in the water, knows the waves of the North Shore the way most kids know their school playgrounds. Those waves, in fact, were his playground. He secured an invite to the Vans Pipe Masters, so the brand took a minute to point a camera at him. In the short profile you see above, the viewer gets a rare look at Ivan out of the water. What scares him the most about Pipe. Who he doesn’t want in his heat. All sorts of questions are asked, and Ivan answers them all with a smile and a laugh.
