The Inertia

Kanoa Igarashi was always destined to be a surfer. Igarashi’s father was a surfer in Japan before his parents planted their roots in Huntington Beach, California. They hoped to get their children involved in surfing. At age 14, the Japanese American surfer became the youngest person to ever win the U.S. National Championships for under-18s. In 2016, Igarashi was the youngest rookie on the WSL Championship Tour. In 2021, he won the silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. And in 2022, Igarashi rounded out the CT in fifth place. In the above video, Igarashi talks about his off season training, his family, his biggest competitors, his reason for competing, and his dreams of winning a world title.
