The Inertia

Ramzi Boukhiam has had a whirlwind year. At the top of the season, he wasn’t even on the CT roster, but after Joao Chianca’s injury and Felipe’s withdrawal, he got called up to the big leagues. Since then, he’s made a powerful case for his place on the tour, with a third place finish in Tahiti, a fifth place result in Peniche, and a qualification for the Paris Olympics.

You don’t need to be told all that to be sold on Ramzi, though. All you need to do is look at his surfing, as you can see in a new highlight reel posted to YouTube by the WSL.

In the video, the Moroccan seems equally bullish on his career trajectory. “I feel like I’m in my prime, physically, mentally and in my surfing,” says Ramzi in a talking head interview. However, even more than that, he says he’s proud of being able to stay true to himself, throughout this meteoric rise. “It was natural for me,” he explains, “I’ve always been Ramzi, the crazy, funny, serious Ramzi, all mixed up. I try to be the same with everyone, every person I meet, all the time, in any situation.”
