The Inertia

Ireland’s Gearoid McDaid has his sights set on the Olympics. And as one of his home country’s top surfers, he’s somebody plenty of people are keeping their eyes on in the Irish surf scene.

“Misery Loves Company” is a taste of winter in Ireland with McDaid, constantly on the move and looking for the best waves he can find at home. It’s always cold. The waves are solid. But as filmmaker Clem McInerney puts it, “Unfortunately, when you get good swell in Ireland the weather is usually challenging. Challenging is a nice way to put it in some cases. [This is] a winter of chasing swells and enduring the misery of the wet, cold, short days.”
