You’d be forgiven if, over the course of the last week or so, you’d forgotten that the North Shore isn’t all death bombs and waves so big they close out Waimea Bay. That’s because for the last week or so… well, it was all death bombs and waves so big they closed out Waimea Bay. But wait, just for a second. Remember when the North Shore was just seven miles of picture-perfect waves? Seven miles of little hidden gems; super-secret spots like Pipeline and Rocky Point and Sunset? Ah, those were the days.
Since that stretch of sand is so chock full of incredible waves, it naturally attracts some incredible surfers. To reach legend status on the North Shore takes a lot. There are, after all, a whole lot of great surfers there. But Gavin Beschen counts as a legend. He’s been around the block more than a few times. He’s proved himself at the Proving Grounds so many times that proving himself is no longer necessary. Although he moved to Hawaii from San Clemente, he’s a staple on the North Shore. The ever-talented video wizard Jack Coleman spent a few days following him around to create the smooth jam of a clip you see above. It’s nice to switch gears after that deluge of death bombs, isn’t it?
