Gabriel Medina defeated Joel Parkinson at the Rip Curl Pro Search in San Francisco today. His win at Ocean Beach is his second elite ASP World Tour victory this season.
In three to five foot waves, Medina dispatched Parkinson with two early scores of 7.50 and 9.00. In his heat with Kelly Slater, the newly crowned ASP World Champion, Medina worked his way to the day’s highest heat total, a 17.33.
Medina took out a number of the old guard on his way to the win, including Parko, Slater, and Taylor Knox.
The event saw Kelly Slater crowned World Champion, then due to a mathematical error, it was stripped, only to be replaced after one more heat win.
