By winning the HD World Junior Championships during a high-scoring Final in Brazil, Gabriel Medina has claimed the 2013 Men’s World Junior Title. Medina went on to dominate during the last day of the competition, posting the highest score in each round. He scored a nearly perfect 9.97 for a massive backside air. Ramzi Boukhiam fought hard during the final but ended up placing second.
Surfers who placed in the top four of the HD World Junior Championships have earned a position in the ASP 2014 events, fast tracking their qualification efforts onto the World Tour. The ASP World Junior Championship Title has been previously won by big names such as Joel Parkinson, Adriano De Souza, Jordy Smith and Andy Irons.
Gabriel Medina, the Brazilian goofy footer, explained in a recent press release, “This feels really good. I’m so happy to win this event. It was a great Final against Ramzi (Boukhiam). He’s a good friend of mine and he was surfing well all week. I just tried to do my thing in the Final, airs, turns, and I got two good scores.”
