The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. At least sometimes. Sir Paul McCartney’s daughter Stella McCartney didn’t take up music like her father, but instead became a prominent fashion designer. She went her own way, which is totally cool. But when it does happen, when progeny follows parent, it’s also pretty dang cool.
Surfing in particular seems like an easily passed on tradition from generation-to-generation. And there are many prominent father/son surfing duos – from Mike and Mason Ho, to Herbie Fletcher and his sons Christian and Nathan. Another prominent California-based surfing brood is the Archbolds. Matt “Archie” Archbold was a pioneer of the aerial in the late 80s, as a prodigy coming out of San Clemente. He also went on to make a name for himself on the North Shore, with full-sleeved tattoos and punk rock style. And his son Ford has followed suit. Ford’s a solid surfer with a similar go-for-broke style to his dad. But he also has other interests, particularly with his band Tomorrows Tulips, which he started with longboarding stylemaster Alex Knost.
But when Ford’s not touring in Europe or practicing for a new album, he still gets in the water with his dad. Above you’ll see both of them enjoying some recent waves around California courtesy of El Niño.
