You just spent a huge chunk of your savings on a trip to Indo to have the surfing experience of your life. Everything is just about perfect, but you are still fraught with nerves wondering if your scrawny office-withered arms can handle paddling into heaving barrel after heaving barrel.
There’s no reason to throw your money down the drain by showing up unprepared and out of shape. There are ways to prepare your body for maximizing your time in the surf, and getting the most out of any trip. Whether you just started and want to stand up for the first time at some warm beach break in Mexico or you’re a seasoned vet, doling out major bucks to surf freight train barrels, you should always go prepared and in optimal fitness.
I recently came across this fitness series from Fit For Trips, offering circuit training for traveling surfers. This first video covers the most basic of moves: paddling. Without building a strong back and arms you won’t have the endurance to surf day after day, and nothing’s worse than being surfed out with a half a week left on your trip. Follow this training circuit for at least four weeks before your big trip and make sure you maximize your time in the water. And make sure you pack the right goods in your suitcase.
