The Inertia

You’ve been one of these three women in the hours before leaving for a surf trip. Fact.

You have Felicity Palmateer, for example, ready and prepared for the whole event. She’s packed, fed, caffeinated, and checked in for that flight hours beforehand. And then the pain of waiting sets in. Wait some more. And wait a little bit longer. All that preparation only left you with more freedom to stress about the things you may be forgetting.

Many of us are more like Laura Enever, though. Life’s too busy to arrive early, let alone make sure you remembered how to get to the airport in the first place. You’ll figure it all out when the time comes, right? Assuming you actually get there in time for your flight.

And then there’s Alessa Quizon, caught somewhere in the middle of both experiences. Whether she was ready or frantically running out the door at the last minute, now she’s left sitting in her car with nothing to do but pray traffic parts like the Red Sea and escorts her to the airport in a timely fashion.

And you know what else these two and a half minutes expertly capture about every single surf trip ever? All that pre-trip anxiety and madness literally vanishes the moment you’re on the other end of it, getting barreled out of your mind.
