The Inertia

Editor’s Note: The stoke for surfing is contagious. Remember the first time you felt it? You’re likely never to forget that moment. This is the reason that people continue to dive into freezing water with less than perfect surf, in order to foster that special feeling. This is particularly true in Ostend, Belgium. The surf scene there is alive and well… and they’re stoked! Conditions may typically be less than ideal (although sometimes, with the right storm, it can really turn on), but that doesn’t stop the locals who simply need to get in the water and get their feet in the wax.

This photo essay by Damian Davila portrays that simple stoke that comes from the salty goodness of the ocean (no matter what temperature). Those moments that remind us all of why we ever started doing it in the first place. The surfing spirit is thriving in Belgium. Enjoy the Ride!
