The Inertia

This clip is a collage of very fickle moments, on very fickle waves, captured sitting amidst weeks of weather, living in my van during the winter months. Several of the rides you see here were luckily recovered after losing the GoPro.

On a last ride in one evening, the camera was ripped from me when I wasn’t able to make a tube. When the waves are of size, it takes a little while for the camera to surface even with the floats. Then combined with the drift, rip and darkness…. it was gone. I have lost one like this and found it before on the corner beach where lots of things collect. But after alot of searching, no such luck this time.

Then out of the blue, two months later, having been out to sea all December and January, a lady on some nearby offshore islands found it on the high tide line. It had been eaten at, but still turned on long enough to see someone with an alien logo on their surfboard. She asked her friend on the mainland have any of the surfers around there lost a GoPro, and then through a friend of her friend knowing me, she posted it back over for a bottle of whiskey.
