It’s always a gamble around home during the winter. Even if there are waves (which has obviously been the case), you’re in a constant game of cat and mouse with the sunlight and rain. If it’s not gloomy skies then it’ll surely be raining. Well, at least as far as this winter is concerned.
I personally love it. It sounds a bit odd, but a chase through crazy weather for waves has always pushed me into situations that I am so grateful for. There are those moments when every element is seemingly against you. Then, in the snap of a finger, more beauty than you could have ever asked for reveals itself.
I often find myself looking back on photos from this season, thinking about what happened right before or after the photo was taken. I frequently think about sitting in pouring rain until a short window of light came. I thought about searching through endless layers of fog until finally the sky opened up and gave me something to work with. Those moments have been unique this year, and the waves that were found in these parts were earned. Cheers to more waves, more camping, and more laughs. El Niño, you have been generous.
