The Inertia

Eimeo Czermak was recently on a mission to get the biggest wave of the year at Teahupo’o, and he didn’t even break a sweat doing it. We got a glimpse at part one of his recent trip to the End of the Road a few weeks ago, but the record-setting bomb he was looking for was still just out of reach. Eimeo’s latest video reveals the next phase of his quest.

The video comes from day three of Czermak’s excursion, and starts with the Tahitian charger in a playful mood. “It’s getting bigger and we’re going to get some bombs,” he half raps, half sings to camera. Shortly after that, though, he drops the act and gets just a little more serious. “It’s been non-stop,” he added, “It’s huge. It’s fucking huge right now. It’s no joke.”

Except, to Eimeo, all of it still is a little bit of a joke. His complete comfort in a wave frequently deemed the “heaviest in the world” and named after a pile of skulls is, quite frankly, unnerving. He’s one of the few surfers in the world who can surf a legitimately lethal day at Teahupo’o and look playful, sometimes even verging on boredom.

Whether he managed to actually snag one of the biggest waves of the year, though, is up for debate. Check it out in the video below.
