The Super Girl Surf Pro took place this past weekend in Oceanside, California. The finals took place on Sunday, September 22, with a matchup between San Clemente’s Eden Walla and Tahiti’s Kiara Goold. In the end, Walla took the victory.
The final heat began with a 6.17 score from Walla, answered by a 4.17 from Goold. Walla then widened the gap with a 7.33. From there, Goold was stuck with lackluster conditions that didn’t give her an opportunity to respond until the dying minutes, when she earned a 6.67 and a slim chance at victory. However, without a followup set to capitalize on, Walla’s lead proved insurmountable in the end.
At 15, Walla is the youngest ever Super Girl Surf Pro winner. The result also brings the title back to San Clemente, after Sawyer Lindblad’s 2022 victory. Finally, the win also takes Walla to the number one spot in the North American QS rankings.
“It means so much to me. I’ve been watching this event for so long and thank you to all my friends for supporting me, they’re the best,” said Walla in a WSL press release. “I just tried to channel all my energy that I had today into that last heat and I’m stoked. Thank you to everyone watching me and supporting me, my sponsors and my friends. Always have faith in yourself and always believe in yourself, and always have fun.”
