With an excessive stack of surfboards tied to the roof, we left the crowded summer peaks of Sydney and headed north in search of some empty lineups. The journey up the east coast of Australia was just as amazing as our final destination. Vast fields of sugar cane, fresh mangoes, and paddocks of cows watched on as we motored on the single-lane highway and halted at the obligatory road stops that have the same decor and food offerings as they did in 1972. We stopped at a bunch of epic spots along the way. There was a perfect combination of empty beach breaks and point breaks that were firing with very few people out. It was an experience of the very best Mother Nature had to offer. There was plenty of sunshine, odd storms, consistent swell, magic morning light and special encounters with dolphins, turtles and several other curious fish species. All in all, this adventure was good for my soul.
