Dylan Graves’ Weird Waves is a wonderful series. All waves are great, but weird waves certainly are the flavor of the day. Graves, Ben Gravy, J.O.B, et al have led a movement towards waves outside of the ocean or strange lumps of oceanic energy. Dylan Graves dove headfirst into it with the first two seasons, traveling all over the place in search of weird waves and weird people. Now, he’s back with the first episode of season three, and since there happened to be a global pandemic, he decided to stick near home.
Since he’s pretty much covered the weirdness around home, he thought he’d see what the hype around night surfing is all about. If you’re a regular night surfer, you probably know. The lure of an empty lineup on a full moon is hard to resist, despite the obvious optical obstacles. In the latest episode, Graves surfs at night during a wildly large red tide, and the phosphorescence that comes with it. Then, since a full moon on Halloween only comes around once in a blue moon, he recruited a few strangers for a blacked out surf. And although the waves weren’t ever world class, the good times Dylan Graves had certainly were.
