Carlos Gauna is one of my favorite YouTube vloggers. And he doesn’t capture gnarly barrels or endless powder lines on tape. No, the man also known as the Malibu Artist is an expert at collecting great white shark footage. And the quality of that footage is out of this world. He recently posted an interesting vlog on injured great white sharks that had been hurt in fishing incidents or hit by boat propellers. He was actually able to relocate some he’d found on multiple occasions. He also captured some crazy footage of a boat actually slamming into a great white, which you can watch at the 3:33 mark in the video above.
“In this video,” he wrote, “we examine sharks I’ve found in different locations. All with injuries. From fishing injuries, to boat strikes, to shark-to-shark injuries, (they) are incredibly resilient creatures.”
Carlos gets into the different types of injuries he sees, like skin cut away from the predators, or worse, a badly broken fin. He wonders aloud how the fish survive in the wild after sustaining injuries like this. Carlos is actually working with the California White Shark Project to track the populations of sharks he photographs. The group is currently working to get a good count of the great white population in California.
