Ocean Beach, San Francisco is, of course, one of our first big wave locales. It’s where everybody tested everything from equipment to themselves before the media’s big-wave focus moved south to that spot near Half Moon Bay. You can see why in this excellent drone footage from one David Shepperd. It shows exactly how good this place can get: big, clean, totally makeable, and totally terrifying when you get caught inside.
Winter is coming in like a lion. We’ve seen waves on Maui, the North Shore, and next week, winter will reportedly kick into high gear in the mountains. While it doesn’t really get the press of those other spots, winter at Ocean Beach (and fall with its warm temps and offshore winds) is still well-respected, a place where you could get the wave of your life – or a beatdown to make you question life’s purpose.
