Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise, windsurfing can be straight-up gnarly. With mast in hand, these watermen charge giant surf at places like Jaws and Cloudbreak. and sometimes, it catches up to them.
A drone captured footage of Marcilio Browne taking a hellacious wipeout during a recent competition in Fiji at the aforementioned Cloudbreak, which has a tendency to be a mean wave on its best days. The sound is on and you can actually hear the lip hit the mast as Browne is flung into cartwheels. You can almost hear him grunt when the lip makes impact.
“It was a good hold down, too, it took a while to come up,” Browne said after.
Browne had to be picked up by a Jet Ski after as you can see the powerful swell washed his gear over the reef.
