A surfer who spent more than 30 hours floating off the Scottish coastline over the weekend was found on May 1st. Matthew Bryce, a 22-year-old surfer, left his home Sunday morning to surf at West Port Beach. When he didn’t return later that day, his family notified authorities, who immediately began searching for him.
After a call to the public and a large search party, the Coast Guard spotted Bryce on his surfboard, 13 miles from the Scottish coastline. “Hope was fading of finding the surfer safe and well after such a long period in the water,” Dawn Petrie, at Belfast Coastguard Operations Centre, told The Sun. “He was kitted out with all the right clothing including a thick neoprene suit and this must have helped him to survive for so long at sea. He is hypothermic but conscious and has been flown to hospital in Belfast.”
Now, the Coast Guard has released the video of his rescue. Bryce was hypothermic but otherwise unharmed. He is currently recovering in Ireland.
