The Inertia

It’s been a little while since we’ve heard any news about the World Surf League’s newly re-vamped Longboard Tour. That might be by design since the three 6,000 point contests (trumped only by the Taiwan Open championships valued at 10,000 points) are scheduled so that Noosa happens in March and the next event, in Galicia, Spain, won’t happen until late August.

But, to catch you up, earlier this year the WSL named Devon Howard head honcho of the Longboard Tour along with sweeping changes including an aim to expand the number of stops from one to four. With six lower-profile events, too, that brings the number up to 10, and a much more legitimate “world tour.”

Not that anyone would ever question Mr. Howard’s credentials, but as if you needed a reminder of the man’s capabilities manipulating 9-foot-plus sleds, well, we offer the above. We submit to you that the Longboard Tour is in extremely capable, supple hands and we can’t wait to see what unfolds later this year.

For more with Devon Howard, check out our interview with him from earlier this year.
