The Inertia

Desert Point, in Lombok, Indonesia, is widely considered to be one of the world’s best waves. It’s a fickle beast, but under the right conditions, it can provide long left-hand barrels to rival the best days at G-Land or the Mentawais.

In a new video from Global Zoo, we get a peek at a lesser-known segment of the famous break. “While technically part of Desert Point, the aptly named Grower section is essentially a surf spot in its own right,” reads the description to the video. “When it’s on, it breaks Pipe-esque over dangerously shallow coral reef, and it has to be up there as one of the heaviest waves in the whole of Indo. While the rest of the point is heaving with surfers, not many people are usually taking this place on.”

From minute one, you can see why. One of the few surfers in the lineup charges a seemingly endless barrel, with back-to-back sets emerging in the lineup behind him. Desert Point can be a cruel mistress, but she will also reward those who remain loyal.
