The Inertia

Sydney has been experiencing a run of swell like no other. This week, an 18-foot swell, combined with a king tide, pummeled the coast of New South Wales. Beaches were closed, buildings destroyed, and residents warned to stay out of the water. Of course, that didn’t stop some surfers from venturing out into the mayhem.

From the YouTube Channel Thrills Spillz comes ‘Deadman’s Rising’ – a brand new edit of the action at one of the most genuinely terrifying breaks not only in Australia, but the entire world. Deadman’s doesn’t break often, requiring just the right conditions to truly awaken. However, when Sydney receives a megaswell like it did this week the wave absolutely lights up.

“Footage was filmed on April 1, 2025 from first light until approximately 9:50 a.m.,” explains the caption. “Deadman’s is one of the most insane slab breaks in Australia and must be seen to be believed. Chapter Two will follow and feature more insane footage and carnage from throughout the morning and afternoon.”

Check out the full video below. And it sounds like we’ll get a second edition, as well.
