Adriano de Souza took the Rip Curl Pro Portugal in clean, four foot barrels at Supertubos today. The 24-year-old Brazilian dominated on the final day, dispatching Travis Logie, Michel Bourez, Bede Durbidge, and in the final, Kelly Slater.
The third tour win of his career followed an opening wave that earned him a 9.0 after Slater took off on a handful of low scoring waves. After a quick back-and-forth for the top spot, de Souza closed the lid on the heat with 6.67 that left Slater unable to answer back.
The win moves de Souza from sixth into the third spot in the race for the ASP World Title, while Slater maintains the top position.
The next stop in the ASP season is the Rip Curl Pro Search in San Francisco, running from November 1 – 10, 2011.
