The Boom is a barreling beachbreak in Northern Nicaragua, a tube rider’s dream. Miami expat Shay O’Brien has been credited with first realizing the spot’s surfing potential in 1999, when he stumbled upon it while hunting for breaks. The mesmerizing barrels on tap quickly O’Brien under their spell, and he went on to found the nearby Chancletas Beach Resort with his wife Loretta and three daughters in 2003. Since then, the area has drawn many more barrel hunters to the idyllic spot.
In his recent YouTube post, Kai Noa proved the explosive Nicaraguan break still lives up to the name. As promised, barrels are on tap, along with a few airs, all in mesmerizing dawn patrol lighting.
