Cyrus Sutton is one multifaceted individual. It started with his thirst for knowledge about our planet–the people who share it, their passions, exploring and sharing everything he discovered through film. He moves through life with a commitment to being interested, instead of just interesting.
As a man, Cyrus is an incredibly thoughtful and introspective person. He’s a director, filmmaker, surfer, adventurer, and sought-after brand ambassador. He’s produced Emmy Award-winning films like Stoked and Broke and is the founder of Korduroy TV, a website that explores creativity and sustainability in the outdoors. His latest film, Island Earth, explores the challenges of choosing conventional agricultural practices (including the use of science and chemical solutions) versus utilizing ancient techniques to keep the world fed.
His career has taken Cyrus all over the globe. He’s even spent some time living and working out of a van. Today, though, he resides in the Pacific Northwest, where he grows his own food and documents others who also live off the land, taking an even deeper look at permaculture and sustainable ways of living. I’ve always been interested in Cyrus’s ideas and films and enjoyed this conversation a lot. He offers some true gems about following your dreams, the unique world of social media, the power of storytelling, and the reality of making a career built on passion.
