Cyclone Alfred is doing things to the Gold Coast. Huge things. Surfers at Coolangatta and Kirra are in the midst of a swell event that, to be honest, feels pretty historic.
Cyclones, of course, are not generally great for people who feel their wrath. Surfing a cyclone swell is a silver lining on a dark cloud, and senior meteorologist Sarah Scully, with the Bureau of Meteorology, told ABC News Australia that there would be “widespread impacts” from what she thinks will be a “multi-day event.”
Raw Surfing has been there to catch as much of the action as possible, and it’s safe to say that there has been a LOT of action. “Cyclone Alfred delivered some incredible swell to Coolangatta,” the channel wrote on YouTube, “and Kirra was the place to be!”
